UPDATE: The Friends of Off Road Cycling (FORC) announced Sunday’s races will be delayed for one hour due to current weather conditions. “This will allow extra time for course setup that can’t be done today and drying time on our end,” said FORC in a post on their Facebook page Saturday afternoon. “We are not worried about Sylvan Island trail conditions, as they do handle the rain surprisingly well and dry very quickly!

When Jones College graduate Matt Burke’s childhood friend died at 17 from a rare form of brain cancer, he saw the reality of the health care industry, inspiring him to become a doctor. Burke, who graduated in May, can make that dream come true. Just before graduation, he learned that he had been chosen for the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.  “My aspiration is to serve as a medical professional and try my best to never let any family go through what Ian and his family went through,” said Burke.

Trisha Yearwood hand-selected a few friends to help celebrate her 25th anniversary as a Grand Ole Opry member. On March 13, 1999, Porter Wagoner inducted Yearwood into the Opry, saying she was the best female vocalist he'd ever heard. Yearwood got another surprise that night when the late Patsy Cline's husband and daughter took the stage to present her with a silver necklace from the country icon. Yearwood grew up a big fan of Cline's, and after receiving the necklace, she performed one of her songs.
