Actor Alec Baldwin has never been shy in expressing his opinions about politics, and yesterday he took to his Twitter account to slam country star Hank Williams, Jr. for his recent rants against President Obama, calling him a "broken-down, senile, racist coot." Williams has made no secret of his extreme distaste for the sitting president, ripping him over and over in interviews and onstage at his concerts. Much of his dislike appears to stem from his belief that President Obama is a Muslim who is against America.

According to the Urban Dictionary, something is said to have “jumped the shark” when it has reached its peak and begun a downhill slide to mediocrity or oblivion. It’s said to have been coined by Jon Hein, who has a web site, jumptheshark.com, and now a book detailing examples, especially as applied to TV shows. It supposedly refers to an episode of the TV show “Happy Days” in which Fonzie jumps over a shark on water skis, which Hein believes was the point at which the series had lost its touch and was beginning to grasp at straws.

Iowa Plastic Surgery, a longstanding clinic and medical spa founded by Benjamin Van Raalte, M.D., is now part of Genesis Health Group, effective today (Aug. 1). Now named Genesis Plastic Surgery, the practice will continue to offer patients state-of-the-art plastic surgery procedures, a private Joint Commission-certified operating room, and medical spa treatments at 4334 E. 53rd St., Davenport, according to a Genesis release Tuesday. Genesis welcomes board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Van Raalte, who brings 35 years of plastic surgery experience, and his clinical and office staff.

Lindin Ellzey looked at the courthouse ceiling and breathed a sigh of relief and his young accuser burst into tears after a Jones County jury told the judge they couldn’t reach a unanimous decision in his molestation trial. The jury — made up of five white women, three black women, three white men and a black man — deliberated for less than two hours before saying they were “hopelessly deadlocked” early Friday evening.
